Maintenance is part of ensuring you get the most miles out of your vehicle and that it continues to operate efficiently and correctly. There are several maintenance milestones you will need to remember with different types of services needed. We recommend service and maintenance interval lists
Before we get into actual lists of maintenance services, let’s first discuss oil and oil filter changes. On older model vehicles, the recommendation is every 5,000km, especially if you are still using a regular oil blend and not a synthetic-blend or pure synthetic oil. For newer vehicles, the interval will be different depending upon the type of oil in your vehicle.
For instance, synthetic blends can last between 5,000km and 7,000km, while some pure synthetics are designed to last between 7,000 and 10,000km.
In addition, the type of driving conditions will affect how often you need to get your oil changed. If you drive frequently in stop-and-go traffic or in dusty conditions, then you will want to get the oil changed more frequently, and the actual mileage in between changes will be less.
At every 5,000km interval, you will want to check all fluids and the tire pressure. Top off any fluids that are low and clean your backup camera lens.
At every 5,000 mile interval, get your tires rotated and rebalanced. This will help ensure they are wearing evenly. Inspect your air filter and replace it, if needed, especially if you drive in dusty conditions.
Replace your air filter under normal driving conditions. You should also get your brake pads inspected and replace those, if needed, and remember to have the rotors turned.
Once your car reaches this milestone, there are several systems you will want to have inspected, in addition to the ones listed above, including:
At this milestone, if you have an automatic transmission, have the transmission fluid drained and replaced, as well as the transmission filter. For manual transmission vehicles, have the transmission differentials drained, cleaned, and refilled with new fluid. Additionally, inspect your battery, look for signs of leakage, and have it tested to make sure it is still recharging. Also remember to have your ignition system inspected, including the spark plugs, spark plug wires, and alternator.
Have all 50,000KM (and less) maintenance and inspections performed. It is recommended to replace all hoses and belts, too, as they are nearing the end of their useful life.
If you keep your vehicle for a long time, you will want to have all of the above services performed, along with new spark plugs and spark plug wires, if they have not been previously replaced.
